Gazette Information: GAZETTE ISSUE 28976, VICTORIA CROSS,: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/28976/pages/9374. The KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the grant of the Victoria Cross to the undermentioned for their conspicuous bravery whilst serving with the Expeditionary Force:- Lance-Corporal Charles Alfred Jarvis (Regimental No. 3976), 57th Field Company, Royal Engineers. For great gallantry at Jemappes on August 23rd in working for 1 ½ hours under heavy fire in full view of the enemy, and in successfully firing charges for the demolition of a bridge.
