Ensign Moody was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 871 aboard the carrier USS PRINCETON (CV-37). On July 22, 1951, while on a combat mission two miles east of Kumsong, North Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire, crashed and burned. His remains were recovered. Ensign Moody was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
