Albert S. Heupel, 98, Aberdeen, SD died Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Private services for Albert S. Heupel, 98, Aberdeen, are 10:30am, Saturday, June 27, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home. Burial at Bertsch Cemetery, Eureka, SD at 2:30pm, Saturday with Military honors by Fred Weller American Legion Post 186. Albert died Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen.

Albert S. Heupel was born March 25, 1922, to Simon and Magdalena (Bertsch) Heupel. He grew up on a family farm south of Ashley, ND. He received his education at Petersburgs school district. He worked on the family farm and also worked for other farmers until he entered the US Army during World War II to serve his country. He served in the South Pacific. Albert and three of his brothers served in the army at the same time. He was discharged May 6, 1946.

On December 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Violet Bertsch by Reverend C. Rempel at the Baptist Bertsch Station. They made their home on a farm north of Eureka where they raised cattle and grain. In 1986 they moved to Aberdeen, SD. In 2012, they sold their house and moved to Crystal Apartments. Violet died May 16, 2016.

Albert was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Aberdeen. He was past member of the Baptist Bertsch Station until it closed, and then became members of the Venturia Baptist Church. Albert held the positions of deacon, treasurer, usher and sang in the men’s choir. Albert was a member of the Eureka American Legion for 57 years. He also loved to play checkers.

Grateful for having shared Albert’s life are his daughters, NyLetta (Donald) Valer and Cherrolaine Heupel, Aberdeen; sisters-in-laws, Sadie Bender, Aberdeen, and Adeline Heupel, Ashley, ND.

Preceding Albert in death are his wife, Violet Heupel; parents, Simon and Magdalena Heupel; brothers, Edwin (Theresa) Heupel, Ted (Viola) Heupel, Adolph Heupel, Theophil (Bertha) Heupel, Herbert (Lillian) Heupel, sister, Edna (Walter) Helfenstein and brother-in-law, Clarence Bender.
