LEWISTOWN, IL - Robert E. Shawver age 86, of Lewistown, passed away at 7:58 PM Wednesday September 15, 2010 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba, IL where he was a resident.

He was born September 7, 1924 at rural Lewistown, the son of Thomas and Ruth (Brown) Shawver. He married Mildred M. Bump on March 4, 1947 at Fulton County. She died February 26, 2007.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Steven Shawver on December 9, 2008, one brother, & three sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Shawver of Lewistown, his poodle Buster, two sisters-in-law, Rosalie Gentle, and Betty Bump, both of Canton, and several nieces & nephews.

Bob farmed in Smithfield for many years, and also was a rural mail carrier for 15 years. He was a veteran serving in the US Army during WW2. He was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church, and he also attended the Waterford Union Church. Bob was a lifetime member of the Lewistown VFW, and Lewistown American Legion and past commander of both; he was also a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association. Bob graduated from Lewistown High School, and then attended Bradley University.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday September 20, 2010 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Darrell Auten officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown with military services conducted by the Lewistown VFW, and Lewistown American Legion Posts. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church in Havana.
