HOMER P. ECONOMOS, 76 -- Retired schoolteacher -- Homer P. Economos of Dunellen, New Jersey, and formerly of Millville, New Jersey, died Monday, July 30th, 1990 at home. He was 76. Born in Libohovë, Gjirokaster, Albania, he came to this country in 1928, and was a Millville, New Jersey resident for 18 years before moving to Dunellen, New Jersey 40 years ago. A Millville High School graduate, he also graduated from St. Stephen's-Bard College in New York, as a Phi Beta Kappa. He also received two master's degrees, one in humanities from Columbia University and the other in English from Boston University. Mr. Economos taught Latin and English at Dunellen High School from 1950 to his retirement in 1978. Prior to that, he taught at St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware, Friends Central School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Perkiomen School in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania. A member and past president of the Dunellen Education Association and the Middlesex County Education Association, he was also a member of the New Jersey Education Association and the National Education Association. He was selected as a delegate to the New Jersey Education Association's state assembly. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the St George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway, New Jersey. Survivors include his wife, Thelma (Kalivas); two daughters, Sandra E. Hawrylo of Morristown, Pennsylvania and Dr. Barbara P. of Solonika, Greece; a sister Lillian Vallinos of New York City, New York; and two granddaughters. Services were conducted this morning, August 3rd, 1990 in St George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway, New Jersey. Burial was in Bound Brook Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Mundy Funeral Home in Dunellen, New Jersey.
