EX-TERRE HAUTE BOY DIED IN THE ARMY.

John W. Shields Will be Buried Here Besides His Parents

Indianapolis Press: John W. Shields, brother of Mrs. John T. Saulter, of 941 north Alabama street, died yesterday at Fort Robinson, Neb., of typhoid fever. He was aged 18 years. He enlisted in the regular army last February, contrary to the wishes of his family. He wanted to go to China. When he died he was clerk in the commissary department, company M, Tenth United States infantry. His father and mother died at Terre Haute sevral years ago. The body will be brought to Indianapolis, but will be interred at Terre Haute. The young man worked for some time after leaving school for Mickel, electrician, on north Pennsylvania street.

Mrs. Saulter did not know of her brother's danger, but about two weeks ago finding it impossible to rest easy with the young man about ready to start for China, she took steps to force him out of the service. While this was going on he became ill and died. His sister here was notified of his illness, but it was poronounced malarial fever, and not serious. Mr. Shields was a bright young man and popular. He was unmarried.

The dead soldier will be given a military funeral by the company of the National Guard at Terre Haute.
