Two groups of Soldiers from Gonzalez County, the thirty-one man Gonzalez Invincibles and thirty-eight privates of the Wilson Rifles helped formed the core of Company I.

Edmund enlisted as a Corporal under Col Moore in Galveston Sept. 16, 1861. Killed in Action at Shiloh.

His Military documents record Edmund was mortally wounded in the battle of Pittsburg Landing on April 7, 1862, in Shiloh, Tennessee, at the age of 36.
