Departed New York City for Liverpool, England on July 22,1918 aboard the USS Harrisburg.

While in England, the entire 339th Infantry Regiment was designated for deployment to North Russia as the American North Russia Expeditionary Force (ANREF).

Arrived in Archangel, Russia on Sept. 4, 1918 and disembarked on the following day.

The ANREF was placed under British command while in North Russia and most elements of the ANREF were sent by the British to the front lines to fight on the side of the White Russians in the Russian Civil War against the Bolshevik Red Army. Company I was assigned to the Railroad Front.

Departed Archangel, Russia on June 1, 1919.

Departed Brest, France on June 22, 1919 aboard the USS Von Steuben, arrived in Hoboken, N.J. on June 30, 1919.

Arrived in Detroit, Mich. on the evening of July 3, 1919. Participated in the welcoming festivities at Belle Isle on July 4th. Departed Detroit for Camp Custer on July 5th, where he was discharged from the US Army within the next few days.
