on of James Batie Boyd and Julia F. Tate, of Grainger and Hamblen Cos., TN. In 1855, he married Ellen C. Eaton, daughter of Andrew Chamberlain Eaton and Susannah M. Donaldson. George and Ellen were the parents of four daughters: Alice M.; Susan Cornelia; Ollie Laura; and Lucy Belle. He apparently served as the first sheriff of Hamblen Co., TN, from 1870 to 1876. G. H. Boyd was the brother of Cornelia N. Boyd, who married Ellen's brother, Dr. Robert P. Eaton. In all likelihood, he was also the administrator of Daniel Eaton's estate who filed a suit against the widow Charity V. Eaton contending that she should not be the one to inherit the estate.
