amuel Gladden Beatty was the third son of Benjamin Beatty and Sarah Gladden. He was born in Washington Co., PA, in 1860; the family later moved to Macon Co., MO. After graduating from business college, he taught school for two years. Like his brother, Park B. Beatty, he later relocated to CO to pursue a career in mining. During the 1890s, he owned and worked several lucrative gold and silver mines there. He also served for a time as a justice of the peace and a coroner. Eventually, Samuel moved back to Macon Co., MO, to engage in farming and stock raising.
