Death

B-29 crew departed from Isely Field, Saipan, Marianas Island, for a combat mission to Nagoya, Japan, and left its formation at 0155 hours on 18 Dec 1944. The plane, which was then at 24° 33'N, 139° 50'E was believed to be returning to its base because of operational failure. Radio silence was not broken, however, and routine sea search failed to reveal any further trace of the plane or survivors.
