yman Curtis Lutes (1914-1969) was the eldest son of John Ralph (1892-1952) and Verna Essa (1893-1971, nee Jones) Lutes. He was inducted into the US Army on the 9th of June, 1941, at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Lawrence Township, Marion Co., Indiana. He was then stationed at Will Rogers Field in October of that year to begin his basic training, and training with the US Army's new light bombardment center in Oklahoma city, home of the 38th Air Base Squadron. He marries a Texas girl, Miss Lovilah Mary Sheker (1919-1992) on December 6th, 1941, before being shipped out to the Pacific Theatre in early 1942. From 1942 until his 'Honourable Discharge' in 1945, he served with the 5th Air Force's 19th Bombardment Group, and then with 5th's Service Command in their Statistical Section, and doing Ground Administration work with the 64th Service Group, HQ & HQ Squadron. His war service was in New Guinea, the Netherlands East Indies, and the Philippines. On 10 October, 1945, Staff Sergeant Lyman Lutes receives his 'Honourable Discharge' from the 64th Service Group, HQ & HQ Squadron, at Camp Atterbury's Separation Centre, in south-central Indiana. He received the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Two Battle Stars (Netherlands East Indies and Papua New Guinea Campaigns); Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal.
