Dear Sir:

There is living, not far from me a poor man, a Revolutionary soldier, who has applied to me as a matter of charity to obtain for him a pension if he is entitled to one. . .

“Hall Hudson, the applicant for pension, was born in South Carolina, near the mouth of Big Pedee (in what he believes was then called Cheraw district), on the 14th day of March 1758; at the age of about sixteen he entered the Service of his country as a private in Capt. Thomas Loyds Company of Militia, and was garrisoned at Cheraw Hills, So. Carolina: Colo. Powell commanding; and served, to the best of his recollection more than two months. . . . In the same year he was ordered into service and served about the same length of time, at the same place and under the same officers. The spring after he entered the service again and was ordered to Charleston where he remained until he received an injury on his left leg and is at the present time a cripple. This tour of duty was performed under the command of Capt. Richard Johnson of the Militia and, to the best of his recollection, was the spring before the battle of Fort Moultrie in Charleston Harbor. The applicant was discharged and forced to leave the service by the sore on his leg. . . .
