Mabel was a very hard working home maker. She was quite accomplished at cooking and baking. She was also skilled at needlework. She enjoyed sending in submissions of poetry and other items to various newspapers and magazines and she often did the crossword puzzles in the paper. She played the piano by ear.

Mabel raised a large family and taught her children many of her skills. All her daughters became talented with cooking, baking and other crafts.

Mabel was a devout Christian and the pillar of faith for the whole family. The family attended St. Paul Lutheran church in Blue Earth, MN.

Christmas eve was always held at John and Mabel's farm house and the entire extended family came.

John and Mabel were frugal in their ways for the most part, but one thing they didn't mind spending money on was heating for their house. It was always kept near about 80 degrees in the winter.
