SGT. ROBERT HOLMES REPORTED LOST IN AGTION OVER ENGLAND Reported as lost in action on November 10th was Technical Sergeant Robert B. Holmes, son of Mr and Mrs J. M. Holmes of Salt Lake City, former Helper residents. The telegram received by Sgt. Holmes' parents stated that he was lost in action over Eye-Suffolk, England. Sgt.. Holmes was a radio gunner in the 813 squadron in the Eighth Air Force - having been overseas for over a year. Sgt. Holmes enlisted in the air corps in July 1941, receiving his basic training at Stockton Field, California. He then attended advanced school at Scott Field in Chicago for six months, prior to his leaving for overseas duly. He attended Helper school to the seventh grade, at which time his family moved to Salt Lake City to make their home. He attended the University of Utah for two years before enlisting in the service. Surviving him are his parents of Salt Lake City; two brothers. Edward Holmes of California and Lt Eugene J. Holmes, a prisoner in the Philippine Islands: five sisters, Mrs L. C. Mathewson and Mrs James Smith of Helper. Mrs E. D. Stilley of Chicago. Mrs Glen Healey of Roy,Utah, and Miss Dorothy Holmes of Salt Lake City.
