Arthur George Eickhoff was born May 12, 1925 in Natoma, Kansas to William and Emma (John) Eickhoff.

Eickhoff was inducted into the Army Air Forces during WWII. He was stationed at an airbase near London, England with the 856th Bomber Squadron, 492nd Bomber Group. His crew conducted reconnaissance missions over England with Eickhoff serving as a radio operator and gunner.

SGT Arthur George Eickhoff was KIA over England on March 17, 1945.

The following letter was received by his parents according to Plainville Times. “The missing air crew report has been received relative to the mission leading up to the untimely death of your son which indicates that he was the radio operator of a B-17 (Flying Fortress) bomber which participated in a local weather reconnaissance flight over England on March 17, 1945. The report indicates that radio contact was made with your son's aircraft at about 10.00 a.m. at which time its position was about twenty miles inland from Trevose Head, England and It was neither seen nor contacted after that time. Shortly after the aircraft was due at its base a search was instituted, and it was found to have crashed six miles off the English coast from Trevose Head, with no survivors. "Enclosed (sic) is a list of the names of the crew members who were serving with your son on March 17, and the names and addresses of their emergency addresses. I extend my deepest sympathy to you that the memory of your son's faithful service to his country will comfort you in your sorrow. Very sincerely, E A. Bradunas, Major, Air Corps.”

SGT Eickhoff was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
