Arthur Theodore Altman Jr was born on December 16, 1915 St. Paul, Ramsey County Minnesota to Arthur T. Altman (1886-1982) and Hazel Louise Eugley Altman (1889-1988). He had one sister Katherine and one brother Roger Altman, who served in the Army during WWII as a Sgt. Arthur T Altman Jr was born and raised in St Paul, Minnesota. He was later living in Los Angeles County, California. He had attended high school for 4 years and was a salesman.

He volunteered for the US Army Air Corps in Los Angeles, California on February 25, 1942. He served during World War II. He had the rank of Second Lieutenant and was a Pilot. Service number was O-745991. Served with 20th Fighter Group, 55th Fighter Squadron.

Altman was reported missing and ultimately declared dead on January 5, 1944. He was a P-38 Lightening pilot flying #42-67194 on a mission over Kiel, Germany. His right engine was seen on fire and he crashed into the North Sea near Wangerooge Island, Germany.

Arthur Theodore Altman Jr is memorialized at Tablets of the Missing at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. This is an American Battle Monuments Commission location.
