Grandpa John was a quiet man and never spoke too much of anything. He was all business. He owned a nice ranch and a couple of horses. He loved fishing and I remember fishing once with him in Colo rado that was a nice day.
He was married twice. His first wife left him during the war, but she gave him a daughter who was my mother Marilyn.

He was there on the beaches of Normandy for the longest day, Operation Overlord, D-Day they called it. It must have been a bloody hell on Earth.

He was regular army and a very tough guy. I remeber seeing his picture of him in uniform on the wall at his ranch.

"Your Grandfather had to hide under the body of his friend to survive, and he doesn't ever want to talk about that day," Grandma.

He said of being a soldier that it was something no one else could understand except real soldiers.

He had two other children with his second wife Audra. A girl and boy Sara and Roy.

He sold realestate. He loved horses. He loved a good steak. He was a good painter and he loved to paint landscapes of his ranches, and paint horses and portraits.
